Hangzhou Flower Garden is located on Xishan Road, on the west bank of West Lake. Its west gate is at Huangniling, south of Hongchun Bridge, and its east gate is between Liujin Bridge and Wolong Bridge on Xishan Road. Facing West Lake in front and leaning against West Mountain in the back, the garden boasts a beautiful environment and exquisite layout, earning it the nickname " A Pearl on the Banks of West Lake . "
Hangzhou residents love and cultivate flowers. Lu You, a poet from the Southern Song Dynasty, coined the line, " In a small building, I listen to the spring rain all night; in a deep alley, apricot blossoms are sold the next morning." Hangzhou is a renowned destination for flower and bonsai viewing. The flower gardens are divided into nine sections: bonsai, roses, orchids, chrysanthemums, fragrant flowers, field flowers, aquatic flowers, greenhouse flowers, and peonies. It's truly a gathering place for the most diverse flowers on the lake.
The garden preserves over 3,500 species of exquisite and traditional flowers from 160 families and genera . Among these, there are over 1,000 varieties of chrysanthemums. " Longtu Pavilion " and " Moonlight Stars " were awarded the Best New Variety Award at the China Chrysanthemum Variety Exhibition. The orchid garden is filled with fragrance, featuring the in-house cultivated spring, summer, autumn, and winter orchids, each characterized by an elegant yet lingering fragrance.
The precious varieties " Yuchen Dagong " and " Xuelan " presented by Zhu De during his lifetime are particularly eye-catching. Outside the bonsai garden in the " Zhuijing Garden , " a unique stone with a twisting and changing shape and engraved " Zhuiyunfeng " ( Crimp Cloud Peak) is rated as the finest of the three famous stones of Jiangnan, adding luster to the flower garden.
The flower garden has flowers to enjoy all year round, including peach blossoms from March to April , peonies from April to May , osmanthus from September to October , and roses from October to November .
