Baoshishan, located on the north bank of Beili Lake in Hangzhou's West Lake, faces Gushan Mountain in the distance. Rising 73 meters above sea level, it is commonly known as Baoshishan or Baochu Mountain. The mountain is composed of igneous rhyolite and tuff , containing iron oxide, giving it an ochre-red color. In sunlight, it shimmers like flowing clouds, resembling jade and agate, hence the name Baoshishan.

Whenever the sun shines, the mountain is bathed in a riot of colourful clouds, especially during the rising and setting sun. Baochu's graceful beauty, bathed in the glow, is exceptionally dazzling, like countless gems gleaming in the light. Hence the name " Gemstone Flowing Clouds " , which has been designated one of the ten new scenic spots of West Lake.

In front of Laifeng Pavilion, a giant oval-shaped boulder rests on the mountaintop, known as the Falling Star Stone , also known as the Longevity Stone. North of the mountaintop, a massive rock rises in the air, called Kansongtai, inscribed with the characters " Tunxia . " To the west is Chuanzheng Cave, formed by the cascading of massive rocks, with a few stone beds for rest. Behind the cave, a narrow path leads to a giant footprint carved into the wall, a reference to the " Dengkailing " (Dengkai Ridge), where Qian Shechao unleashed his might. From here, one can ascend to Lion Peak. The Baidi Causeway, like a jade belt, is a mirror-like sight, creating a picturesque scene that is both refreshing and relaxing.
