Tianzhu Mountain, now the main peak of the West Lake mountain range, lies approximately 5 kilometers southwest of West Lake , at an elevation of 412 meters. It was named Tianzhu Mountain, formerly Tianzhu Peak , because the valleys surrounding the Lingyin Temple and the Tiansanzhu Temples to the north were the birthplace of the West Lake Buddhist temples . Tianzhu was the name of an ancient Indian country, and thus the name Tianzhu Mountain. The name was also used to describe the peak.

There are three famous temples on Tianzhu Mountain: Faxi Temple, Fajing Temple and Fajing Temple, which were called the " Three Tianzhu Temples " (commonly known as Shang Tianzhu Temple, Zhong Tianzhu Temple and Xia Tianzhu), all of which are famous ancient temples in Hangzhou.
