Introducing Xilu

Xilu, located at No. 66 Beishan Road , was built in the 1920s as a brick-and-wood garden villa. Fronting the villa is a three-bay, Chinese-style hall with a large roof . Behind the hall, up a flight of stairs , is a two-story, three-bay Western-style brick-and-wood building. In May 2004 , the building was included in the first batch of historical buildings protected by the Hangzhou Municipal Government.

The garden is filled with ponds, rockeries, and lush flowers and trees. The buildings are arranged in layers, with the foundations gradually rising. The two houses, one in the middle and one in the west, are one low and one high. Nestled against the mountain and beside the lake, facing north and south, it is truly a perfect place for rest and recuperation, hence its name: Xilu (resting house).
