Introducing Fengyu Thatched Cottage

Fengyu Thatched Cottage, also known as Yu Dafu's Former Residence, is located on University Road, Shangcheng District, Hangzhou. It is the former residence of the famous anti-Japanese hero Yu Dafu in Hangzhou. After Yu Dafu moved to Hangzhou from Shanghai in 1933, he purchased vacant land and built a house in April 1925 , naming it " Fengyu Thatched Cottage . " It is now a cultural relic protection unit in Hangzhou.

Designed by Yu Dafu himself, the house is divided into a main building and a backyard. Upon entering, five or six bungalows flank the main gate, with the living room in the center. Bedrooms are located to the east and west of the hall, and corridors extend along three sides. A brick wall separates the main and backyards, with three bungalows in the backyard serving as a study and guest rooms. The interior is dotted with rockery and scattered trees, creating a tranquil and elegant environment.

In December 1937 , Yu Dafu, his wife, and children traveled to Singapore. When Hangzhou fell, the " Fengyu Thatched Cottage " was used as a stable by the Japanese army, and its collection of over 20,000 books was destroyed. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the residence was taken over by the government, and the structure was preserved in its original state.
