The Chairman Mao Inspection Memorial Hall, located at No. 56 Xiaoying Lane in Shangcheng District, Hangzhou , covers approximately 200 square meters and is open to the public free of charge. On January 5, 1958 , Chairman Mao Zedong, en route to Hangzhou Airport, made a last-minute visit to Xiaoying Lane to inspect sanitation. He visited gates 61 , 56 , and 42 , inspecting the residents' bedrooms, living rooms, kitchens, cupboards, and water tanks. He praised the work, saying, " Your sanitation work is excellent! "

To commemorate this event and further promote the in-depth development of the Patriotic Health Campaign, in 1972 , the wall gate at No. 56 , Xiaoying Lane , was converted into the " Chairman Mao's Inspection of Xiaoying Lane Health Work Exhibition Hall " , displaying photos of Chairman Mao's inspection, used objects and historical pictures and materials of Xiaoying Lane's health work.
