The Wenchang Confucian Temple was first built during the Qingli period of the Northern Song Dynasty and relocated to No. 20 Wendongli, Wencheng Town, in the eighth year of the Hongwu reign of the Ming Dynasty (1375). It covers a total area of ​​3,300 square meters. It is the best-preserved ancient architectural complex in Hainan Province and one of southern my country's most distinctive ancient cultural tourist attractions. Known as the "First Temple of Hainan," it is the only Confucian temple in China that does not face south and does not have an open gate.

A statue of Confucius teaching stands before the main gate of the Wenchang Confucian Temple. Within the Dacheng Hall, there's a Confucius shrine, along with a statue, tablets, tablets for the Four Companions and Twelve Philosophers, plaques with the Emperor's seal, and couplets.
