In its heyday, the ancient town boasted 300 boats moored at the port, singing and dancing alike, and merchants flocked to the area. The vast fleet of the renowned merchant Hu Xueyan once sailed across the emerald waters, and today, over a hundred buildings dating back to the Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China still stand.
The shops along Heqiao Old Street still retain the original " front shop, back workshop " style, featuring shops like Xu Yilong, Jishantang , Chai Zhizhen , Hu Sensheng , Huiyuantang , Changnan Police Station , and Yuelu Jiaohang . Through these historic gates and courtyard walls , one can relive the grandeur and splendor of the ancient town .
