Yuansheng Teahouse, located on Tianjin's Gulou Commercial Street, is a preserved and newly restored tea garden among Tianjin's four major tea gardens. Formerly known as Jinsheng Tea Garden, it was one of the four famous gardens during the Jiaqing and Daoguang reigns of the Qing Dynasty. With a rich history spanning 120 years, the Jinsheng Tea Garden was a gathering place for scholars, poets, and renowned performers, and held a prominent place in Tianjin's theatrical scene. Renowned Tianjin and Beijing opera actors such as Sun Juxian, Li Jirui, and Yuan Yuanhong, as well as leading Peking Opera and Bangzi opera actresses such as Xiao Rongfu and Yang Cuixi, have performed at the tea garden, earning it a prestigious reputation throughout history.
The current Yuansheng Teahouse was rebuilt in 2001 on the site of the former Yuansheng Teahouse near the Drum Tower in the Old Town. The rebuilt teahouse boasts a simple and elegant feel, boasting a spacious, elegant 180-square-meter lobby perfect for both conferences and entertainment. The teahouse also boasts 10 distinctly different tea rooms, each offering a tranquil setting for tea tasting and conversation. The lush green-tiled pavilions and vermilion-painted walls create a modern fusion of tradition and tradition.
