
The ruins of King Yue City are located on the top of Chengshan Mountain, 700 meters northwest of Xianghu Village, Chengxiang Town, Xiaoshan District, Hangzhou. It was an important military castle where the Yue State stationed troops to resist the Wu State during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period . It has a history of more than 2,500 years and witnessed the historical vicissitudes of " sleeping on firewood and tasting gall " . It is the best-preserved ancient city wall ruins to date.
The city walls were built using rammed earth, following the natural course of the mountain ridge. With a circumference of 1,091 meters, the walls are steep and feature rammed earth. Within the city walls, the remains of Chengshan Temple from the Ming and Qing dynasties remain, and the mountain path boasts over 200 steps, a relic of the Ming dynasty.
