Introducing Anjia Courtyard

The An Family Courtyard is located north of Guiyi Street, once Yangliuqing's busiest street, and shares a street north with the Shi Family Courtyard. Originally built during the Tongzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty, it has been restored to retain its ancient cultural charm and value. It is now a National 2A-level tourist attraction and was once the residence of An Wenzhong, the first person to lead the Yangliuqing expedition.

The An Family Compound, covering over 1,000 square meters, is divided into three courtyards, embodying a typical northern Chinese quadrangle layout. The front courtyard is a large one, connected by an inner gate. The backyard is divided into two smaller courtyards, east and west. Within these courtyards are underground relics, including Qing Dynasty gold and silver vaults and Cultural Revolution air-raid shelters. These three courtyards are interconnected, with a well-balanced structure and a smooth flow of space, demonstrating a typical inner-house and outer-courtyard structure. The owner of the compound, An Wenzhong, was the first person in Yangliuqing to "rush to the big camp." He pioneered the "civilian aid for military supplies" initiative, supporting Zuo Zongtang's Qing army's expedition to Xinjiang with a fresh approach to safeguarding China's unity.
