The Haikou Shishan Volcanic Cluster World Geopark, located in Shishan Town, southwest of Haikou City, is a graben-rift valley-type basic volcanic relic. It is one of the few dormant mountain groups in China that experienced volcanic activity during the Holocene (10,000 years ago). Through the vicissitudes of time and the transformations of the earth, 36 cup-cone crater structures have been preserved. Among them, the Ma'anling Crater, at 222.8 meters above sea level, is the highest peak in northern Hainan and holds great value for scientific research, popular science, and tourism.

Today, the crater is covered in lush vegetation, and the only remnants of the eruption are the volcanic cones and other remains.
