The Chang Shuhong Art Museum, located in the Gushan section of the Zhejiang Provincial Museum, is a special gallery within the museum. In 1999 , in accordance with Mr. Chang Shuhong's long-cherished wish, his family selflessly donated over 200 of his oil paintings, gouaches, and drawings to his hometown of Hangzhou.
In 1927 , Chang Shuhong traveled to France to study Western painting. During his ten years there, his works won numerous awards and were collected by the French National Museum, contributing a rare chapter to the pioneering journey of Chinese oil painting in the early 20th century. In 1943 , he decided to settle in Dunhuang and became the first director of the Dunhuang Cultural Relics Research Institute (the predecessor of the Dunhuang Academy). Over the decades of his work, Chang Shuhong actively organized the restoration of murals, collected and organized scattered cultural relics, wrote academic articles, and copied numerous murals.
