Construction began in 1437, the second year of the Zhengtong reign of the Ming Dynasty. Originally comprised of a tower, arrow tower, and a barbican, the tower and barbican once served as a military fortress protecting the city gate. Today, the barbican and tower are gone, leaving only the arrow tower.
