Baiyangdian, the largest lake on China's Haihe Plain, is located in central Hebei Province. It comprises 143 ponds, large and small, with the larger ones, including Baiyangdian, Shaochedian, Yangjiaodian, Chiyudian, and Houtangdian, collectively known as Baiyangdian. Baiyangdian boasts rich aquatic resources, with over 50 species of freshwater fish. It is also renowned for its vast reed marshes and thousands of acres of lotus ponds. Close to Beijing, it is a popular tourist destination outside the capital.
The water town scenery of Baiyangdian varies with the seasons: in spring, reeds grow thickly and the lake is full of green; in summer, lotus flowers begin to bloom and the scenery is charming; in autumn, reed flowers fly and the lake is full of fish and ducks; in winter, the lake is frozen and as clear as jade.
Famous scenic spots include Yuanyang Island, Minzu Island, Lotus Pond, Jiulongtan, etc.
