Maoershan is located in Maoershan Town, Shangzhi City, Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province, 5 kilometers north of Maoershan Railway Station and 84 kilometers from Harbin City.
Its highest point is 805 meters above sea level, with an area of 10 square kilometers. It is composed of Jurassic intermediate-acidic volcanic rock and is the highest peak near Harbin.
According to legend, a god's hat fell here, forming Maoer Mountain. The unique peaks and natural secondary forests covering the mountain create unique and beautiful scenery all year round.
In front of the mountain gate, what catches the eye is a "Tai Chi" shaped lotus pond, with fish swimming among the lotus flowers.
Looking up, you can enjoy the scenery of the mountain; looking down, you can observe the Dharma in the pond. Going straight up along the road to the Tai Chi Ruyi Lotus Pond, on the right side of the mountain road is a natural wooden platform - Qiankun Pavilion.
Maoer Mountain has countless natural beauties and is a leisure and tourist destination for people who have lived in urban castles for a long time to escape from the hustle and bustle and experience unique scenery.

Maoer Mountain, part of the Changbai Mountain range, is a well-known natural site in Heilongjiang. It is celebrated for its rich biodiversity, alpine climate, and scenic beauty. It has become a popular destination for outdoor activities such as hiking, skiing, and wildlife watching.
Maoer Mountain is located about 80 km north of Harbin. The easiest way to get there is by taxi or private car. Public buses may also be available from the city center to the base of the mountain, but they are less frequent. Walking from Harbin is not practical due to the distance.
The mountain is open year-round, but the best time to visit is from May to October when the weather is mild and the trails are accessible. Winter (November to February) is ideal for snow sports but is colder and less accessible for hiking.
The entrance fee for the Maoer Mountain area typically ranges from 30 CNY to 100 CNY depending on the activities you plan to do (e.g., hiking, cable car ride). Tickets can be bought at the entrance or in advance via the resort’s website or other online platforms.
It is not necessary to book tickets in advance for hiking, but it is recommended to book tickets for cable car rides and winter sports activities during peak seasons (December to February) to ensure availability.
To explore the mountain fully, including hiking, taking the cable car, and visiting the ski resort, you should plan for at least one full day. A longer visit is ideal if you plan to experience the resort’s winter activities.
Guided tours are available in Mandarin, and some English-speaking guides may be available during peak tourist seasons. It’s advisable to inquire about availability at the resort or tourist center.
Start by taking the cable car to the top for a broad overview. Then, explore the hiking trails if you’re up for a challenge. If visiting in winter, consider starting with snow sports at the resort. End your visit by relaxing and enjoying the natural beauty around the mountain.
Night visits are not typical for Maoer Mountain, as most activities are daytime-oriented. However, during the winter months, the resort may offer special evening events such as night skiing and snowboarding.
The mountain can get crowded during weekends, holidays, and peak seasons. For fewer crowds, visit during weekdays, especially in the spring or autumn months, when the weather is still pleasant, but the number of visitors is lower.
The area has basic facilities such as public toilets, water refill stations, and rest areas. The Maoer Mountain Ski Resort has food outlets, souvenir shops, and equipment rental services. There are also small shops for essentials at the base of the mountain.
The resort and the cable car are accessible for families with children, elderly visitors, and those with limited mobility. However, some hiking trails can be challenging for elderly or disabled visitors due to their steep terrain.
Mobile payments such as WeChat Pay and Alipay are widely accepted. Credit cards may also be used at certain shops and services. It’s recommended to carry a mobile payment option for convenience, as cash is not always necessary.
The resort offers several dining options, including restaurants that serve Chinese cuisine. In Harbin, there are more diverse food options, including international cuisine and local specialties.
Vegetarian options are available at most restaurants within the resort, and some places in Harbin offer vegan and halal food options as well.
Souvenir shops at the resort sell items like ski gear, local handicrafts, and winter-themed memorabilia. Typical souvenirs include snow globes, keychains, and local snacks.
After visiting Maoer Mountain, the best options are taxis or private cars for a direct return to Harbin. Public buses are available, though less frequent, and can take you back to the city center.
