Bayinbuluke Swan Lake, located in Hejing County, Bayingolin Mongol Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang, is China's only swan nature reserve and a prime location for swan viewing. Located within the Bayinbuluke Scenic Area, Bayinbuluke Swan Lake is Asia's largest swan nature reserve. With an average altitude of 2,400 meters and a total area of approximately 1,100 square kilometers, it is home to my country's largest population of wild swans. The waters, shimmering with clear, rippling waterweed, are home to swans, either floating in the river or perched solitary on the railings of the boardwalk.

Bayinbuluke Swan Lake is an important ecological and natural landmark in Xinjiang. The lake serves as a vital stopover for migratory birds along their migration route and is famous for the large population of swans that reside here during the colder months.

Bayinbuluke Swan Lake is open year-round. The best time to visit is during the migratory seasons, typically from May to October, when the swans and other birds are most abundant. Winter visits offer a peaceful atmosphere but may be colder and harder to access.
The entrance fee is typically around 50 RMB. Tickets can be purchased at the entrance of the lake area, and there is no need to book online in advance.

It typically takes around 2 to 3 hours to explore the lake and surrounding areas, especially if you enjoy bird watching and photography. A full day might be needed if you plan to take part in a boat tour or hike around the area.
Guided tours are available in Mandarin and might be offered in English on request. It’s best to arrange for a guide in advance, as English-speaking guides are not always readily available.
The best viewpoints are located on the observation platforms near the lake. The view of the swans with the surrounding grasslands and mountains in the background makes for excellent photographs, especially during sunrise or sunset.
Start your visit by walking along the lake’s edge to get a close-up view of the swans. Afterward, head to the observation platforms for a higher vantage point. If you have time, take a boat tour around the lake to see more wildlife.
Night visits and light shows are not available at this site. However, the peaceful atmosphere during the evening and morning hours is perfect for photography and nature walks.
The lake can get crowded during peak tourist seasons, especially in summer. The least crowded times are in the early morning or late afternoon, and weekdays tend to be quieter than weekends.
The area around Swan Lake has some uneven terrain, which may be challenging for elderly or disabled visitors. However, there are accessible pathways around the lake, and the observation platforms can be reached with minimal effort. Children will enjoy the wildlife, but should be supervised.
Cash is often needed for small purchases. Mobile payments like Alipay and WeChat Pay are accepted for tickets and small purchases, but it's recommended to carry some cash, especially for vendors and smaller services.
There are no large restaurants within the immediate area, but small local eateries serve traditional Xinjiang cuisine nearby, including lamb skewers, naan, and kebabs.

After visiting, taxis, private cars, or buses are available for transportation to nearby attractions like Bosten Lake or back to Korla city. Renting a car can offer more flexibility in exploring the region.
