Enshrined not only are Buddha and Bodhisattvas, but also the Jade Emperor, the Holy Mother, Wenchang, and Guan Gong. The most famous attraction within Gaomiao is the Gaomiao Hell. Constructed beneath the Gaomiao foundations, it is one of China's four ancient hells. Zhongwei Gaomiao, a National Key Cultural Relic Protection Site, was first constructed during the Yongle reign of the Ming Dynasty and, by the Qing Dynasty, had become a large complex of ancient buildings.
