Introducing Dayun Academy

Dayunyuan, also known as "Dayun Temple," is one of only five surviving Five Dynasties wooden structures in China. Located in Beilong'er Mountain, Shihui Village, Beidanche Township, 23 kilometers northwest of Pingshun County, Dayunyuan is surrounded by mountains on three sides and faces the Zhang River to the south. Densely forested, it offers a secluded and tranquil setting. Facing north and south, Dayunyuan consists of two courtyards, covering an area of ​​4,000 square meters. The existing mountain gate, Heavenly King Hall, Three Buddha Hall (rear hall), and east and west wings in the front courtyard all feature architectural styles from the Ming and Qing dynasties. The Great Buddha Hall, a relic of the Five Dynasties, retains some Five Dynasty painted elements on its interior beams, girders, and timbers, a rare example among ancient Chinese buildings. The gables feature Five Dynasty murals, inheriting the style of the Late Tang Dynasty. The murals, executed in blue, green, and ochre, are outlined in ink, similar to the Late Tang Dynasty murals at the Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang. Faintly visible painted elements on the brackets and architrave walls demonstrate a simple style, making them rare examples of temple murals and early painted elements. The use of Pube beams in the structure is the earliest existing example in China.
