The Temple of All Emperors, commonly known as the Imperial Temple, is located at 131 Fuchengmennei Street, Xicheng District, Beijing. Construction began in 1531, the tenth year of the Jiajing reign of the Ming Dynasty. The site was originally the Baoan Temple. It was rebuilt in 1530, the ninth year of the Jiajing reign of the Ming Dynasty, and renovated in 1729, the seventh year of the Yongzheng reign of the Qing Dynasty. After several adjustments, the number of emperors enshrined was finally determined to be 188. Emperor Qianlong even proclaimed the principle that "the lineage of Chinese succession must remain unbroken." It is a masterpiece among China's ancient architectural treasures and an important cultural venue that attracts Chinese people from home and abroad to pay homage to their ancestors, celebrate their predecessors, and enhance historical pride and national cohesion.
The temple enshrines 167 emperors and 79 meritorious officials. The main hall, Jingde Chongsheng Hall, features the central tablets of the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors, including Fuxi, Yandi, and Huangdi, with tablets of other emperors to the left and right, creating a solemn and dignified atmosphere. The East and West Side Halls feature exhibitions on the historical evolution of the Temple of the Emperors and the main figures enshrined in the Temple of the Emperors, offering visitors a deeper understanding of the founding, development, and refinement of the Temple and its sacrificial system.
