
Pingzhou Academy, located in Lingling District, Yongzhou City, Hunan Province, was founded in 1739, the fourth year of the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty. It is a historic private academy. Founded by Sui Wenhuan, a native of Lingling and the magistrate of Taoyuan County (present-day Siyang, Jiangsu Province), and his son, Sui Wenhuan, it was rebuilt in 1886 by renowned Hunan Army generals Wang Debang and Xi Baotian. It has since undergone numerous renovations and reconstructions. The academy boasts a simple and elegant architecture and preserves numerous historical and cultural relics. Pingzhou Academy, one of the four ancient academies in Hunan Province, holds significant cultural value. It bears witness to the development of ancient Chinese education and serves as a vital carrier of traditional Chinese culture. Pingzhou Island, where the academy is located, lies at the confluence of the Xiaoshui and Xiangjiang Rivers, offering stunning scenery and a tranquil environment.
