The Junshui River, also known as Taoxi, is the mother river and lifeblood of the people of Chongyang and Tongcheng counties. A first-class tributary on the right bank of the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, it originates at the northern foot of Mufu Mountain in Tongcheng County, on the border of Hunan, Hubei, and Jiangxi provinces. Its source is located in Gaofeng Village, Magang Town, Tongcheng County. The middle and lower reaches of the Junshui River in Chibi and Jiayu are said to have been renamed Lushui after Lu Xun, a renowned general of the Eastern Wu during the Three Kingdoms period, stationed his troops there. Today, the Junshui River is defined only as encompassing the upper and middle reaches within Tongcheng and Chongyang, with its main stream extending approximately 200 li.
