Located in the north of Changde City, Hunan Province, approximately 15 kilometers from Wuling District in the heart of Changde City, Sun Mountain Forest Park is one of the most famous scenic spots in Central China and part of the Liuye Lake Tourist Resort. Its main peak, Sun Mountain, is the last peak in the Wuling Mountains extending eastward.
Other notable attractions in the scenic area include the Sakura Tower, Puguang Temple, Guanyin Hall, and Tathagata Hall. These two are Buddhist temples on Taiyang Mountain, where visitors often visit to pray after climbing. Buses from Changde City to Taiyang Mountain now run to Huashan, at the foot of the mountain, making it very convenient for city residents to visit the mountain.

Booking in advance is optional but recommended during weekends or holidays. Online booking 1-3 days prior can secure your visit and reduce waiting time.
A half-day (3-4 hours) is sufficient for main trails and viewpoints. A full day allows for hiking, photography, and leisurely exploration of waterfalls and streams.

Start at the main entrance, hike to scenic viewpoints, then follow trails to waterfalls and streams. Take breaks at picnic spots and finish with forest exploration near the park exit.
Night visits are generally not allowed. Special tours may be available during local festivals, but standard operations are daytime only.
Weekdays and non-holiday periods are less crowded. Peak times are weekends, public holidays, and spring/autumn festival periods.
The park offers public toilets, rest areas, small food kiosks, and souvenir shops at key entrances. Carrying water and snacks is recommended for longer hikes.
Children and elderly visitors can enjoy shorter trails and picnic areas. Some trails may be challenging for disabled visitors due to uneven terrain.
