Cixi, part of Ningbo, Zhejiang, is a small, historic city steeped in history and culture, a true immersive experience. Its nickname, "Home Appliance Capital," reflects its rapidly developing economy.
Cixi is named after the Eastern Han Dynasty legend of Dong An, a loving mother and a filial son. Yue Kiln celadon originated here, and the Maritime Silk Road began here. Cixi boasts abundant coastal resources, with nearly 100,000 mu (approximately 1,000 hectares) of reclaimed coastal land, making it one of the most abundant regions in Zhejiang Province.
Cixi is located on the southern edge of the northern subtropical zone and has a monsoon climate with four distinct seasons, with winter and summer being slightly longer and spring and autumn being slightly shorter.
"In May, the bayberry forest is full of bayberries. At first, you might think that one bayberry is worth a thousand gold coins. The flavor is as strong as the grapes from Heshuo, and the color is darker than the lychees from Lunan." Cixi bayberry is famous all over the world. The annual bayberry festival is held in Henghe Town, 5 kilometers south of Cixi City, the main bayberry producing area. Visitors can climb Meishan Mountain, pick bayberries and drink bayberry liquor.
Du Lake and Baiyang Lake
Du Lake, Cixi's largest lake, covers over 3,700 mu (approximately 1,670 acres). Du Lake and Baiyang Lake are only 200 meters apart, with Du Lake to the east and Baiyang Lake to the west. Some call them "sister lakes." Shanglin Lake and Dubai Lake are also separated by only a few mountains, creating a vibrant and awe-inspiring scene that echoes each other from afar.
Shanglin Lake Yue Kiln Site
Around the Eastern Zhou Dynasty, "primitive celadon" appeared in my country. The transition to celadon was completed during the Eastern Han Dynasty, ushering in the history of porcelain production. This remarkable evolution took place in the Shanglin Lake kiln area. Literati throughout the ages have often cited the Shanglin Lake Yue Kiln's lustrous emerald colors, crystalline jade-like clay, diverse vessel shapes, and imaginative decorative patterns as themes for poetry and painting.
Wulei Temple
Located on the east side of Duhu Lake, it faces Jinxian Temple. On one side is the vast expanse of the lake, and on the other side are towering mountains. The rich Buddhist culture gives this scenic spot a peaceful atmosphere. Wulei Temple is known as the first ancient temple in eastern Zhejiang.
