Lingyang Gorge, located in the southwest of Dinghu District, Zhaoqing City, Guangdong Province, is one of the Three Gorges of the Xijiang River, which flows through the ancient city of Zhaoqing. Located downstream of the three gorges, Lingyang Gorge boasts the highest, deepest, and longest gorge, making it the most spectacular and majestic of the Three Gorges. The 7.5-kilometer-long Lingyang Gorge is bordered by the rugged and picturesque Lanke Mountain to the south. The narrowest point of the gorge is only 200 meters, with cliffs rising over 1,000 meters between.
The water in Lingyang Gorge is turbulent and whirlpools are everywhere. In spring and summer, it is even more misty and the weather is magnificent, allowing tourists to fully experience the beautiful scenery on both sides of the Lingyang Gorge. They can also see the ancient artillery platform, the inkstone pit wall, the big and small dragon gates, the Lingguan Ancient Road, the Qingfeng Pavilion, the clothes drying pit, the tiger's mouth in and out of the mountain, the Wangfu Guishi Stone, the Wenshu Village and other scenic spots.
It is said that there was a cave on the north bank of the Lingyang Gorge where the Lingyang Gorge Ancient Temple was once built. Because of its location at the Lingyang Gorge, it was named Xiashan Temple. Xiashan Temple was once one of the eight scenic spots in Zhaoqing during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Unfortunately, the ancient temple was destroyed in modern times, and only ruins remain today.
