Bagua Village, also known as Licha Village, is located along the Zhaojiang Highway in Huilong Town, Gaoyao District. It boasts a history of over 700 years. During the Southern Song Dynasty, the village lacked water conservancy and dikes, and low-lying areas were frequently flooded. Consequently, villagers built their houses on the hillside. Because the hilltop resembles a phoenix, it is also known as "Fenggang."
The West Village of Bagua Village is in the shape of Bagua, with an exquisite layout, hiding the mystery of Luoshu and Hetu. It uses the eight basic figures of the "Book of Changes", an important attraction in ancient Chinese Confucian culture to discuss all things, also known as Bagua, which are the symbolic shapes of "—" and "——". The houses are built on a phoenix-shaped hill called Fenggang.
As you leisurely stroll along the avenue surrounding the village, you'll truly appreciate the village's circular shape and spot ten quaint and elegant gatehouses. Each gatehouse represents a Fang (fang), or clan. Each gatehouse is named after the Confucian ideal of benevolence and generosity: Renheli, Suiyuanli, Xingrenli, Chunheli, Shangrenli, Juheli, Roushunli, Yuxiuli, Renhuali, and Suidefang, collectively known as "Nine Lis, One Fang."
