The China Academy of Art is China's first comprehensive national art institution of higher learning and the birthplace of China's earliest art revolutionary group. Its Nanshan campus is even located on the shores of the beautiful West Lake. Founded in 2003, it is one of the eight major art academies.

The Nanshan Campus represents a modern interpretation of the Ink Painting Academy. Half of the campus is built, and the other half is nature. The Pan Tianshou Memorial Hall, located south of the Academy's main entrance, is easily missed. This two-story, dark-brick building served as Pan Tianshou's studio, study, and living room. It houses a collection of his masterpieces and is worth a visit.
