Sihong County is located in the northwest of Jiangsu Province, in the middle reaches of the Huaihe River, and is adjacent to Hongze Lake, one of the five largest freshwater lakes in China, to the east. It has many honors such as China's Wine Capital and China's Crab Hometown.
Sihong is an ancient land where the Xiacaowan people lived and multiplied as early as 50,000 years ago. It is rich in cultural heritage, with over 70 species of paleontological fossils unearthed within the area, earning it the nickname "a treasure trove of ancient ape fossils" by archaeologists both domestically and internationally.
Sihong boasts breathtaking natural scenery, a superior ecological environment, and abundant tourism resources. Hongze Lake, China's fourth-largest freshwater lake, boasts vast expanses of mist, a habitat for rare birds, and the shadows of fishing boats, creating a breathtaking spectacle. Mudun Island, the only island on Hongze Lake, is said to have been the site of a military parade conducted by Mu Guiying, a female general who fought against the Liao Dynasty during the Song Dynasty.
Sihong belongs to the East Asian monsoon zone and the transition zone between the northern subtropical zone and the northern warm temperate zone. It has four distinct seasons, with rain and heat in the same season. It has cold winters and hot summers, changeable spring temperatures, and clear and cool autumns.
