Introducing Little Qingdao
Xiao Qingdao, also known as Qingdao, is named after this island after Germany forcibly occupied the Jiaozhou Bay and designated its occupied territory as Qingdao. The Germans called this isolated island "Akna Island" and stationed troops there. After the Japanese occupied Qingdao, it was renamed "Kato Island," and local residents nicknamed it "Little Qingdao." Xiao Qingdao covers only 0.024 square kilometers and has an elevation of 17 meters. Its shape, resembling a guqin (Chinese zither), has earned it the nickname "Qin Island." The island lies over 370 meters from the east coast and is connected to the mainland by a long seawall. Originally part of the mainland, it was gradually separated from the mainland by years of erosion and sculpting by the waves, ultimately taking on its present shape.
