Legend has it that during the Three Kingdoms period, during the Southern Expeditions of Zhuge Liang, Prime Minister of Shu, Guan Suo stationed his general Guan Suo here. His popularity among the people inspired the Venerable Master to name the mountain Guansuo Mountain. Guanling County boasts the Baling River Bridge, China's tallest bridge; the Mucheng River Rural Tourism Area, a national agricultural tourism demonstration site; the Huajiang Grand Canyon, known as a fissure in the earth; the cascading Dishuitan Waterfall; the age-old mystery of the Red Cliff Heavenly Book; and the Mama Cliff Murals of ancient Yelang. The Guanling Paleontological Group, dating back approximately 220 million years, is particularly well-known as the "United Kingdom of Paleontological Fossils."
