Among them is a Paleolithic stone axe, the largest discovered in China to date. Numerous Yangshao culture sites remain, along with ancient temples, cliff-carving grottoes, and other relics. In the 1920s, revolutionary pioneers such as Liu Zhidan and Xie Zichang conducted their activities here. Huanglong County is one of the birthplaces of the 25th Red Army. The Battle of Wazi Street, hailed by Chairman Mao Zedong as a turning point in the Northwest War, took place here.
