Introducing Zhejiang University Zhijiang Campus

The Zhijiang Campus of Zhejiang University is located on the banks of the beautiful Qiantang River and on the Yuelun Mountain next to the Liuhe Pagoda. Before liberation, it was the site of Zhijiang University, a church university jointly founded by the Presbyterian Church of the United States and the Presbyterian Church of the United States in Hangzhou, China, and is also one of the thirteen Christian universities in China.

Buildings 1 and 2 were built between 1910 and 1920. The Upper and Lower Red Houses were built around 1902-1903. With their arched doorways and carved columns, they bear traces of ancient Roman architecture and are quite elegant. It is said that John Leighton Stuart once lived in the Lower Red House.

The newly built Zeng Xianzhi Teaching Building is similar in style to the old building. Zhejiang University's Zhijiang Campus is home to the "Zhijiang University Site," a National Key Cultural Relic Protection Unit. It boasts a "remarkably well-preserved modern university complex" and was once ranked second in the world for the most intact preserved modern university architecture.

Feng Xiaogang's film "Aftershock" was filmed at the Zhijiang campus
