Dachangshan Island is located in the central part of Changshan Islands in Changhai County, Dalian City, and is the seat of Changhai County Government.
Dachangshan Island, named for its long, mountainous terrain, boasts a winding coastline and interconnected bays, offering numerous natural and cultural attractions. The island boasts a garden surrounding the sea, and its architecture blends European and Northeast Asian styles, creating a charming maritime town. From a distance, Dachangshan Island resembles a crouching dragon, its head slightly raised, its body undulating in the middle. The Jinchantuo (Golden Toad Mound) at Jinchan Harbor and the Yuanyangtuo (Yuanyang Mound) at Yuanyang Harbor are also incredibly lifelike. At the southern end of Dachangshan Island lies the Qixiang Garden, dedicated to the Sea Goddess, the patron saint of fishermen.
The Sea Goddess holds aloft her precious lotus lantern, her gaze benevolently gazing across the hundred-mile sea ahead, ensuring peace and tranquility for all boats and the safety of all people. Every year on the 13th day of the first lunar month, the Sea Goddess' birthday, celebrated by men, women, young and old, flocking out of the city to burn incense and kowtow in blessings and prayers. Millions of sea lanterns are released into the ocean, where they drift with the current, shimmering and twinkling.
