The underground forest is a national nature reserve, also known as the "crater primeval forest". It is located about 50 kilometers northwest of Jingpo Lake in Heilongjiang Province. It is located in the deep mountains on the southeast slope of Zhangguangcai Mountains, at an altitude of about 1,000 meters.
As visitors ascend the southeast slope of Zhangguangcai Mountain and follow the mountain path to the summit, they will suddenly see a series of enormous craters. Scientists have discovered that these craters are distributed from northeast to southwest, spanning a narrow strip of land 40 kilometers long and 5 kilometers wide, totaling 10.
Jingpo Volcano is a dormant volcano that erupted approximately 10,000 years ago, forming ten craters of varying sizes and shapes. Over millions of years, these volcanoes have formed a unique and rare subterranean forest, hence the name "crater primeval forest." This phenomenon is quite rare, and due to its unique environment, it has become not only a beautiful scenic spot but also an ideal research base for geographers, historians, and biologists from China and abroad.
