Lianhuashan Forest Park is located in Dazhuangke Township, southeast of Yanqing County, Beijing, with a total area of 6 square kilometers. It is 70 kilometers away from downtown Beijing and 40 kilometers away from Yanqing County. It is close to Changchi Road and has convenient transportation.
According to the "Yanqing County Place Names Records," "Because the mountain has well-developed vertical joints, flowing water has eroded grooves in these joints. From a distance, it looks like a giant lotus bud dyed with a pink halo, hence the name Lotus Mountain."
It is not only famous for the legend of the beautiful "Lotus" girl and the fact that Han Zhongli and Lu Dongbin once cultivated themselves to become immortals on this mountain, but also for its unique mountains, beautiful waters, lush forests and secluded valleys that attract tourists from all over the world.
Zhongli Temple
Halfway up Lotus Mountain, a winding path leads to a secluded spot, nestled among verdant pines and cypresses. The ancient Zhongli Temple, a three-sided courtyard-style structure, dates back to the Qing Dynasty. A plaque inscribed "Meeting the Immortals Hall" evokes the legend that Han Zhongli once became a monk and met with Lü Dongbin, hence the name. Villagers from all over the surrounding area come to the temple every year on the 15th day of the fourth lunar month to burn incense and pray for peace.
Huixiantai is a single, unbroken, floating rock, a rare sight in Beijing. Measuring 25 meters long and 12.5 meters wide, it can accommodate 300 people. Legend has it that this was once a place where the Eight Immortals gathered to rest, cool off, and entertain themselves.
Nestled between sheer cliffs, the Tianjing (Heavenly Well) is inscribed beside it with the words "Eight Immortals Flowing into the Well, Immortals Walking Away." While it's unknown when these words were inscribed, legend has it that a beautiful girl named Lianhua lived at the foot of the mountain. To resist a bully forcing her into marriage, Lianhua committed suicide in the Tianjing (Heavenly Well) on the mountaintop on the 15th day of the fourth lunar month. She later ascended to heaven and departed. Therefore, every year at midnight on the 15th day of the fourth lunar month, a lotus flower blooms, showering golden petals. The Tianjing is always filled with water, never drying up.
Dolphin Roaring Sky
The rock resembling a dolphin is known as "Dolphin Roaring to the Sky." During the story of the Eight Immortals Crossing the Sea, a young dolphin developed admiration for Han Zhongli and, wishing to attain immortality, followed in his footsteps and traveled thousands of miles to find this spot. Recognizing his piousness, Zhongli enlightened the young dolphin to immortality. It howled to the heavens, as if to communicate something to Han Zhongli.
The Cave of Transcendence
According to local elders, Han Zhongli bid farewell to his mother and journeyed to Lotus Mountain to cultivate. Upon reaching this spot, he was struck by a bolt of lightning: several huge rocks fell from the sky, blocking his path. Then, clear spring water gushed out from a cave. Han Zhongli inadvertently spotted a strong beam of light reflecting from within the cave. Thinking it might be an immortal pointing the way, he followed the current and entered. Despite the arduous and agonizing journey, he finally made it through, leaving behind his worldly ties. Later, he was enlightened by Li Tieguai and became an immortal, traveling east to Penglai. Hence, this cave is called "Transcendence Cave."
The creek at Liuhu Waterfall cascades down a cliff dozens of meters high, resembling water pouring from a teapot, hence the name. The water is always flowing here, and the temperature is relatively low, making it a great place to visit in the summer.
Lotus Mountain Main Peak
Climbing to the summit of Lotus Mountain, you'll feel a sense of exhilaration. Overlooking the surrounding peaks, you'll experience the feeling of "standing on the summit, overlooking all the other mountains." To the south, you'll see the winding ruins of the ancient Great Wall; to the north, towering mountains; to the west, villages scattered in an orderly pattern; and to the east, the side walls, resembling a miniature "stone forest," are truly magnificent. It's said that the best time to view the scenery here is at sunrise, when the morning glow illuminates Lotus Mountain, turning it a vibrant pink, earning it the nickname "Rising Sun Red Lotus."
