Kuimen
Kuimen, also known as Qutang Gorge or Qutang Pass, is the western gate of Qutang Gorge. At the western entrance to the Three Gorges, the cliffs on both sides rise hundreds of feet high and are less than a hundred meters wide, forming a gateway-like shape, hence the name. Water from the upper reaches of the Yangtze River enters the gorge through this gate, making it the western gateway to the Three Gorges. The gorge is deep and swift, with the river less than 50 meters at its narrowest point. The turbulent waves and roaring, thrilling scene are truly breathtaking, earning it the nickname "Kuimen, the Most Magnificent in the World."
Baidi City
Baidi City is located on Baidi Mountain east of Fengjie, on the north bank of the Yangtze River at the mouth of Qutang Gorge in Fengjie County, Chongqing. It is a famous tourist attraction in the Three Gorges. Originally named Ziyang City, it was built by Gongsun Shu, who ruled Shu during the late Western Han Dynasty. Gongsun Shu styled himself Baidi, hence the name "Baidi City." Baidi City is the perfect spot to view the majestic Kuimen Gate. Famous poets throughout history, including Li Bai, Du Fu, Bai Juyi, Liu Yuxi, Su Shi, Huang Tingjian, Fan Chengda, and Lu You, have visited Baidi Mountain and Kuimen Gate, leaving behind numerous poems. Hence, Baidi City is also known as the "City of Poetry."
Qutang Gorge
This is the shortest of the Three Gorges, yet the most majestic and precipitous, known for its grandeur. At the western entrance, cliffs tower on both sides, hundreds of feet high and less than a hundred meters wide, forming a gateway. Named "Kuimen," it's known as "Kuimen, the most majestic in the world." To the north, Chijia Mountain, and to the south, Baiyan Mountain, the mountains are known for their layers of silvery brilliance, whether bright or dim, regardless of the weather. The Yangtze River, opening this gate, rushes eastward with a mighty force. The cliffs on both sides appear as if sculpted by knives and axes. The mountains are high and the gorge is narrow, and the azure sky appears to be a thin line between the clouds and the sky. The gorge itself is deep and swift, with the river less than fifty meters at its narrowest point. The surging waves and roaring torrents are breathtaking.
