Introducing Zhuoshui Ancient Town

Zhuoshui Ancient Town, located in Zhuoshui Town, Qianjiang District, Chongqing, rose to prominence in the Tang Dynasty, flourished in the Song Dynasty, and gradually declined after the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It is one of the most famous ancient towns in southeastern Chongqing. As a typical example of Chongqing's old city streets, Zhuoshui Ancient Town retains a relatively intact street layout and has a strong sense of the ancient town style of southeastern Chongqing. It not only reflects the differences from other historical districts in other cities, but also carries the integration, inheritance, and innovation of Ba culture, Tujia culture, and Han culture. It also interweaves the culture of the wharf, merchant, and market town.

Today, the ancient town of Zhuoshui still retains residential buildings, ancestral halls, workshops, banks, etc. of various structures, which is enough to show the prosperity of that time.

Tujia stilt houses

The most intact structures still standing are the dwellings along the river in the ancient town, representing the vast cluster of Tujia stilt houses in Xiajie. These houses are built on the four- to five-meter-high embankment of the Apeng River, constructed of stone blocks. Despite over 200 years of pounding by the river, the stone blocks have remained perfectly stable.

Ancient Town Wind and Rain Bridge

The Fengyu Bridge in Zhuoshui Ancient Town, Qianjiang County, spans the Apeng River. The bridge is constructed entirely of wood, with the building materials interlocked and connected with mortise and tenon joints, creating a sturdy and precise structure. The bridge features a three-story pavilion, flanked by approximately one hundred freely operable carved wooden windows, and a red-lacquered bench inside.

Eight Sages Hall

The Yu Family Courtyard, also known as the Eight Sages Hall, is a prominent historical architectural attraction in Zhuoshui Ancient Town. Originally the residence of a Jinshi (Jinshi) scholar from the 16th year of the Qianlong Emperor's reign (1751 AD), it boasts a floor area of ​​800 square meters, making it the second largest ancient residence in the town, second only to Guangshunhao. This brick-and-wood structure features three courtyards (the final courtyard and its patio have been destroyed).
