Youzhou Gorge, also known as the Yongding River Gorge and Guanting Mountain Gorge, is a true river canyon, shaped like a dragon as the Yongding River rushes into the mountains. The valley is flanked by steep cliffs and heavily weathered limestone. The mountains on both sides are dry and sparsely covered with vegetation, yet the scenery remains equally magnificent. Along with the Baihe Gorge, Youzhou Gorge is a renowned canyon landscape in Beijing.
The canyon stretches approximately 30 kilometers, winding down along the Yongding River. The mountains on both sides of the canyon are steep and the water is turbulent, while the water in the downstream area becomes more gentle, creating a very different scenery. The canyon has only one simple road, carved halfway up the mountain, which is only wide enough for one car. Therefore, this is a very demanding off-road route, which tests both technique and courage. Due to the inconvenient transportation, few outsiders visit this place, resulting in a quiet canyon.
