Introducing Xiamen University

Hailed as "one of China's most beautiful campuses," Xiamen University is nestled between mountains and the sea. Its main gate is adjacent to the gate to the Nanputuo Temple scenic area, while on the other side are the beautiful beaches and Hulishan Fort. Founded in 1921 by Tan Kah Kee, a renowned overseas Chinese leader and hailed by Mao Zedong as "the banner of overseas Chinese and the glory of the nation," it is the first university founded by an overseas Chinese in modern Chinese educational history. Notable alumni include Yu Guangzhong, Lin Feng, Yi Zhongtian, and Lu Xun.

Most of Xiamen University's old buildings were built by Mr. Tan Kah Kee's son-in-law. They are distinctive with their plain walls and glazed roofs, and are likened to "wearing a suit and a hat" (a metaphor for the fusion of Chinese and Western architectural styles). The Jiannan Auditorium and Shangxian Stadium are especially magnificent.

The Xiamen University Museum of Anthropology and the Lu Xun Memorial Hall are located on campus. The former houses a collection of artifacts related to human development from prehistoric times to the present day, particularly those reflecting the culture of southern Fujian and Taiwan, as well as historical relics of Fujian's ancient interactions with foreign countries, particularly Quanzhou's overseas transportation. These artifacts are of great uniqueness and value. The Lu Xun Memorial Hall, housed in Lu Xun's former residence during his time as a professor at Xiamen University and featuring four exhibition rooms, showcases Lu Xun's life experiences and esteemed character.

The campus is beautiful, with scenic spots like Furong Lake and the Lover's Valley Reservoir. The atmosphere is tranquil and romantic, leading to the saying, "Talk about love at Xiamen University." The beach outside the campus is especially popular, with couples frequently taking wedding photos there, leaving many who visit the university regretting not attending.
