The Grand Canyon is located in the primeval forest 20 kilometers southeast of the Xing'an Forest Farm in Arxan. The formation of the landform is due to volcanic eruptions and thousands of years of water erosion. It is W-shaped from south to north, 11 kilometers long and 30 to 150 meters wide at the bottom.
The Arxan Grand Canyon, more accurately known as the Volcanic Grand Canyon, is a unique natural landscape formed by the collapse and erosion of volcanic lava deposits. The Arxan Volcanic Grand Canyon is generally about 100 meters deep and stretches over ten kilometers, though only 3.5 kilometers are currently open to visitors. The entrance is located at the top of the mountain, and there's no need to climb. A wooden ladder leads to the canyon's bottom, followed by a rugged path upstream to the stream, and finally to another wooden ladder to complete the journey.
The cold temperate continental monsoon climate makes travel suitable all year round.
