Fuli Ancient Town is located east of Yangshuo County, Guangxi, 8 kilometers from the county seat. With the Guiyang-Wuhan Highway running east-west and the Li River's "Diamond Waterway" running north-south, Fuli offers convenient transportation by land and water. With a history exceeding 1,000 years, the town boasts breathtaking scenery and a unique culture.
Fuli Ancient Town is known as "Three Mountains Surround the Ancient Town, a River Embracing an Oasis." The Three Mountains refer to Feifeng Mountain, Yingwu Mountain, and Ma Mountain, which stand side by side, forming the ancient town's three streets, nine wells, and eighteen alleys. The River refers to the Li River, which is divided into two branches two kilometers upstream by a large sandbar. In Fuli, Feifeng Mountain intercepts the river, forming a winding river with a deep pool. The river water is emerald green, the sand is as white as silver, and crops are grown year-round on the sandbar, creating an oasis.
Fuli Ancient Town, with a permanent population of less than 10,000, has nurtured numerous painters. Nationally renowned painter Li Zhenou is from Fuli, whose flower and bird paintings are displayed and collected by the Tiananmen Square in Beijing. Almost every household in Fuli paints, making it one of the most renowned traditional Chinese painting towns in China, known as the "Hometown of Chinese Painted Fans," and consequently one of the largest production bases for painted fans in the country.
April to October is the best time to visit Guilin, when there is less rainfall, the climate is pleasant, and the river water volume is moderate.
