Introducing Longchang Stone Archway Group

The Longchang Stone Archway Group is located in Longchang County, Neijiang City, which is known as the "Eastern Gate of Sichuan". There are 17 existing stone archways , most of which were built during the Daoguang, Xianfeng, Tongzhi and Guangxu periods of the Qing Dynasty. The main 13 of them are arranged in a row from north to south in the shape of rosary beads. They are distributed on the ancient post road of the north and south passes of Jin'e Town in the county seat (the ancient pass of the Chengdu-Chongqing ancient post road). From a distance, they are lined up one after another and quite spectacular.

Most of the Longchang stone archways are four-pillar, three-door, three-eaved, five-drop stone archway-style buildings, with an average height of 11 meters. They have a dignified shape and delicate carvings. They are representatives of the heyday of archway architecture in the Qing Dynasty and have extremely high value in history, architecture, carving, calligraphy, etc.

Another defining characteristic of the stone archways is their symmetry. The archways exhibit a striking symmetry: South Street boasts the Chastity Archway, while North Street boasts the Chastity Archway; South Street boasts the Filial Piety Archway, while North Street boasts the Filial Son Archway; South Street boasts the Meritorious Virtue Archway, while North Street boasts the Virtuous Government Archway. While we understand this is a man-made arrangement, it's still truly remarkable.
