Danjing Mountain is located on the south bank of the Jian River, the source of the Tuo River. It is one of the eight branches of the Longmen Mountains. It is relatively low in height, but the mountains are lush and green, and the scenery is beautiful. Since ancient times, it has been a famous mountain in Western Sichuan with unique spiritual beauty, and is known as Danyue Daizong.
During the Han Dynasty, it was a place where Taoist sages practiced alchemy. After Buddhism spread eastward, it became a place where Buddhists and Taoists lived, and temples and monasteries flourished. The towering peaks and halls, the overlapping peaks and towers, the sacred sites in Helin, and the Buddha's shadow in Longquan are a true reflection of this place.
Danjing Mountain has been a renowned peony viewing spot since ancient times, with its origins stretching back to the Tang Dynasty, flourishing through the Five Dynasties and reaching its peak during the Song Dynasty. After Luoyang fell to the Jin Dynasty, Danjing Mountain became China's only renowned peony viewing base. However, its fame stems not solely from the fall of Luoyang and Cao. It is primarily due to the wild beauty of the Danjing peonies, which bloom amidst the mountain cliffs, their petals drooping upwards.
During the flowering season in April every year, people flock here to make pilgrimages, worship Buddha and enjoy the flowers. The scene is so lively that it is no less lively than Luoyang.
