The Horse Tie Stone is a relief wall in Kuanzhai Alley. It was once used by the Eight Banners soldiers to tie their horses, and it still survives today, bearing witness to the Qing army's attack on Chengdu over 300 years ago. Modern paintings have made it even more interesting and vivid.
The large stone is square, about 4 meters high and over 10 meters in circumference, with four distinct edges. A circular hole is carved diagonally through the southwest edge. Legend has it that it was carved to tie up horses when Liu Yuan, during the late Song Dynasty, built a stronghold on Tianzhu Mountain to resist the Yuan Dynasty. Today, Liandan Lake has been built, and the stone is submerged.
