Huagaoxi National Nature Reserve is located in Shuiwei Town, about 44 kilometers north of Xuyong County, Sichuan Province. It is a nature reserve that mainly protects the subtropical original evergreen broad-leaved forest ecosystem, the Tertiary relict species Alsophila spinulosa community and its associated rare wild animals and plants.

From a topographical perspective, the reserve is a giant uplifted mountain cut by three rivers, forming a typical canyon, square mountain, and Danxia landform. Specifically, the unique landforms, such as square mountains, red cliffs, strange peaks, caves, and huge rocks, have developed from the thick red sandstone.

There are 29 species of wild animals under national key protection in the reserve, including three species under national first-level key protection, namely leopard, clouded leopard and musk deer, and 26 species under national second-level key protection, namely black bear, goral, yellow-throated marten, white pheasant, red-bellied tragopan and white-bellied pheasant.

Overall, the diversity of plant and animal species in the reserve is of great significance not only to the local but also to the world's biodiversity and ecological environment. For tourists, it is a natural oxygen bar.
