The ancient Qiang village of Mutuo Scenic Area is located on the banks of the Minjiang River, at an altitude of more than 1,400 meters. It is 27 kilometers away from Maoxian County and 167 kilometers away from Chengdu. It has beautiful scenery and rich historical and cultural heritage.
"Mutuo" means "sun" in the Qiang language. The Qiang people claim to be children of the sun, believing that wherever there is fire, there is human habitation, and the tribe thrives. In ancient times, upon death, Qiang people were cremated, and their souls would transform into a wisp of smoke and return to the abode of the gods. Therefore, "Mutuo" is also metaphorically referred to as the place where "fire" grows.
The towering Qiang watchtowers, the melodious Qiang flutes, the vibrant Qiang embroidery, the passionate Qiang Sharon dance, and the mellow and sweet barley wine all reveal the unique and rich ethnic character of Qiang people. This culture has become a rare and precious treasure of the ethnic group that has been passed down through generations, earning it the title of a "living fossil" in the history of Chinese evolution.
Mutuo Qiang Village has a long history and culture. The village still preserves the chieftain's morality stele and village rules and regulations during the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty, 220 ancient stone coffin burial relics from the middle and late Warring States Period, the ancient Qiang village ruins, the chieftain's official village, and the Muxiang Village from more than 500 years ago. There are also natural caves and many natural waterfalls.
