The Hongshan Yulong Sand Lake International Ecological and Cultural Tourism Area is located northeast of Wudan Town, Wengniute Banner, Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia, on the western edge of the Horqin Desert. In 1971, the world-renowned "First Dragon of China," a symbol of the Neolithic Hongshan Culture, was unearthed here, extending China's 5,000-year history back more than a millennium. The area was thus named "Yulong Sand Lake." It is known as the most beautiful desert sand dune tourist destination.

The Yulong Sand Lake Resort combines desert, sand, ancient pines, strange rocks, unusual peaks, wetlands, grasslands, and lakes. A 50,000-mu grassland connects to the vast Horqin Sands. A clear spring buries itself in the sand, forming a lake in the desert. The lake, covering 14,000 mu, is dotted with more than ten sand islands, creating a unique landscape of lakes within the sand, islands within the lake, grass on the islands, and birds among the grass.
