June to October, especially between summer and autumn, is the ideal time to visit. However, the sun is intense during this time, so sunscreen is recommended. Chifeng's landscapes are primarily deserts and grasslands, and the relatively mild climate during summer and autumn offers the best views, with lush green grasslands, golden deserts, and vibrant forests.
Chifeng experiences rapid temperature rises in spring, a dry climate, and frequent strong winds and dust storms. Summer is short, generally lasting from late June to early August, with concentrated rainfall and the hottest month being July. Autumn sees a rapid drop in temperature, but is often sunny, clear, and cool. Winter is long and cold, lasting from early November to late March, with the coldest period between December and January.
Ulanbutong Grassland
Known as the "Back Garden of Beijing," it's also where Emperor Kangxi quelled the Galdan Rebellion during the Battle of Ulan Butong. Enjoy horseback riding, archery, photography, and skiing on the grasslands, ride a sheep cart, horse-drawn plow, or drive yourself to soak in the beautiful scenery and experience the ethnic customs.

Darinor (Lake) Scenic Area
Known as the "Pearl of the Grassland" and "China's Third Largest Swan Lake," Darinor Lake is the second largest inland lake in Inner Mongolia. Anciently known as "Yuerluo," "Buyuerhaizi," and "Daerhaizi," it translates to "sea-like lake" in Chinese. Located at the intersection of plain grassland and sparse woodland steppe, it covers a total area of 240 square kilometers and has a water depth of 1 to 13 meters. The lake is rich in crucian carp and Walleye (Huazi fish).
Surrounding Darinor Lake are vast lava terraces, prominent craters, volcanic cones, lava necks, microscopic volcanic landforms, and volcanic ejecta such as volcanic bombs and scoria. The Darinor Volcanic Group is one of the nine major volcanic groups in Northeast China. The scattered volcanic clusters, the vast emerald Gongger Grassland, and Darinor Lake, the pearl of the grassland, create a magnificent natural landscape.
The reserve has been identified as home to 162 bird species belonging to 32 families, 16 orders, and 8 species of birds under national first-class protection, and 21 species under second-class protection. Every October and November, over 60,000 white swans settle in Dari Lake. Their flight resembles snow on a clear sky, and their landing spreads a blanket of white silk. Their cacophony of chirping fills the air, creating a spectacular spectacle.
