The Taigong Mountain Scenic Area, located at the junction of Jiangjin, Banan, and Qijiang districts, is a remnant of the Dalou Mountains on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau. A folk song still sung in the area goes something like this: "Taigong chases Taipo, a cock chases a flying goose, two dragons fight for the precious stone at Fogang, and a gauze hat falls on Dushituo." The phrase "Taigong chases Taipo" refers to two large rocks on Taigong Mountain: one resembling a kind-looking old man, called Taigong Stone, and the other, called Taipo Stone, resembling a benevolent old woman. The two rocks are so close together that it seems as if the old man and woman are leaning against each other, watching over each other. This is how Taigong Mountain got its name.

Over 20 varieties of flowers and plants, including azaleas, red junipers, red-leaved photinia, osmanthus, magnolia, and camellia, are planted within the terraces, covering an area of ​​over 4,500 mu (approximately 1,000 hectares). The terraces also include flower and tree gardens such as the Purple Xuan Flower and Tree Garden and the Qilin Colorful Flower and Tree Garden, as well as the Yuhuaxuan Observation Deck.
