Introducing Love Ladder

The "Ladder of Love" refers to the 6,208 steps hand-carved down a mountain by Liu Guojiang for his wife. In the 1950s, 20-year-old Liu Guojiang, a farmer from Zhongshan Ancient Town in Jiangjin, Chongqing, fell in love with Xu Chaoqing, a "pretty widow" 10 years his senior. To escape the gossip, they eloped deep in the mountains. To ensure Xu Chaoqing's safe travels, Liu Guojiang dedicated his life to carving stone steps from the cliffs to the outside world.

On December 18, 2007, the male protagonist, Liu Guojiang, passed away. At 9:58 PM on October 30, 2012, Xu Chaoqing passed away at the age of 87. In accordance with her wishes, she was buried beside Liu Guojiang. While this extraordinary love story passed away alongside Xu Chaoqing, it left behind a legend that will be remembered forever.
